Intermediate Computer Education Classes for Adults begin August 16 through September 8! This session will concentrate on Microsoft Office productivity software packages. Topics will include Microsoft Excel & Word among others. Funding for this program is generously provided by the Union Pacific Foundation. This class is limited to 10 students so sign up now! The next summer reading program will be July 28, at 3pm, in the Junior Room. Park rangers from Big Bend National Park will give a cave demonstration and show how to make paint from rocks and plants. Kids will use this paint to decorate their own rock, so please wear old clothes. This will be the last summer reading program of the year. For more information, call the library at 837-2621.
The summer reading program will be held July 21, at 3pm in the Junior Room. Kids will hear The Gum Chewing Rattler, by Joe Hayes, learn some helpful snake facts, and look at snake skin under a microscope. Biologist Karl Peterson will bring a live snake for viewing! This program is for children ages 6 and over. For more information, call the library at 837-2621.
Summer reading materials for Alpine High School students are available at the Alpine Public Library. Reading lists and books for grades 9-12 can be found in the Young Adult Room. These items may be placed on reserve and check-out is limited to one time only. Happy reading!
The summer reading program will be held July 14, at 3pm, in the Junior Room. Kids will hear two trickster tales: ” Anansi and the Magic Stick,” by Eric Kimmel, and “The Spider and the Fly,” by Tony DiTerlizzi. Children will learn about the life cycle of the spider, make a creepy spider hat, and look at a black widow leg under a microscope. This program is free and will last about an hour. A wholesome children’s movie will be shown in the Junior Room on Friday, July 22, from 1:30-4:00pm. The movie is rated “G” and kids of all ages are welcome. Children under the age of 6 should be accompanied by a parent. Please call the library at 837-2621 for more information.
The summer reading program will be held July 7, at 3pm, in the Junior Room. Kids will hear a Japanese fable, “Basho and the River Stones,” by Tim Myers, and “One Leaf Rides the Wind,” a collection of haikus by Celeste D. Mannis. Children will make a Japanese fan, look at rice grains under a microscope, and write their own haiku. Japanese cultural items will be on display for kids to view. The summer reading program will be held June 30, at 3pm, in the Alpine Public Library. Children will hear Polynesian myths, make a tiki tapa bookmark, and look at a piece of banana under a microscope.
