New “Easy Readers” at the Library

Do you have a child who is learning to read? If so, try some of our new Easy Readers.

Easy Readers are simple picture books that stress both phonetic learning and sight words. Your new reader will love the catchy stories, while enjoying the rewards of successful reading, “all by myself.”

Thanks to a grant from Dollar General over fifty new titles have been added to our collection including Bob Books for Beginning Readers, Green-Light Readers, and First Step Nonfiction.

Kids Paper Flower Class

All kids 8 years and older are invited to participate in Paper Flower Class to be held March 18, at 4:15 p.m. in the Junior Room. Attendees will hear the the story The Legend of the Bluebonnet, by Tomie DePaola, and than learn to make tissue paper flowers. This program is free and will last about an hour.

Spanish Story Time is held every first and third Monday of the month at 4:15 p. m. in the Junior Room of the library. All ages welcome.

Spanish Story Time will not be held on February 15 as the library will be closed for Presidents’ Day.

Pajama Story Time!

Pajama Story Time will be held on February 27, at 7:00 p. m. in the Children’s Room. Come watch a puppet show, listen to stories, make a teddy bear puppet and look at sugar crystals under a microscope. Scissors and small buttons will be used during craft time. Be sure to wear your pajamas!

Essay Contest!

The Alpine Public Library is conducting an essay contest for all area students in seventh or eighth grade. The book The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is the subject of this contest. Essay questions and instructions are available at the front desk of the library. The deadline for this contest in January 29.

Alpine Book Club

The club meets in the Junior Room every Thursday, 4:30-5:00 p. m. We’ll start with Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo, on January 28. A few chapters will be read every week, and each meeting will begin with a short review of previous chapters.

Alpine Book Club is for kids 8 years and older.
