A Big Thanks to Alco!

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Alco’s Store Manager delivered a check for $235.17 to Alpine Public Library’s Director, Anitra Clausen, Monday.  The money was raised through the store’s annual cute baby contest, the winner of which was Mia Dominguez of Marfa.  The funds will be used to supplement the library’s easy to read book collection, to help foster a love of reading from infancy.

Thanks for the Great Luncheon!

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

The staff of the Alpine Public Library would like to thank the Friends of the Alpine Public Library for the wonderful luncheon held yesterday.  Special thanks go out to Marilyn Terry who opened her home and hosted the event.

Ms. Terry read a thoughtful passage from one of her favorite book finds.  Afterward, a wide variety of salads, breads and beverages were served.  Light mingling amongst the staff and board members and guests from the community then ensued.  Special thank you gifts were given to each of the Alpine Public Library’s staff.  The cake, which also had a sincere thank you message on it, was then cut.

A wonderful time was had by all.  Though this was only the second annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon, we sincerely hope that it will not be the last.

The current issue and three back issues of USA Today will be available.  Feel free to relax in one of our comfortable chairs and read USA Today — today.

Volunteers Save the Day at MPL

Friday, July 27th, 2007

When Marathon Public Library Manager, Carol Townsend, injured her back last Saturday, Sande Pedro and Carol Henthorn stepped right up and took over the library for her.  “Carol has enough to worry about,” Sande said. “We want her to be able to relax and get some rest.”

Sande and Carol have volunteered to keep the library open on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00 to 1:00 so that patrons can continue to borrow books and movies.

Volunteer Tanya So Saves the Books

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

mvc-008s.JPG Book Conservator, Tanya So, just happened to be in the Alpine Public Library yesterday as staff members were struggling to salvage books that had become waterlogged when the roof over the Junior section in the Children’s Room leaked heavily during the night last night. Tanya rose quickly to the challenge fanning the books and propping them open so that they would dry. Anitra Clausen found a large fan to direct at the open books and Vanessa Hinkson came up with a large painter’s tarp with which staff members will be sure to cover the shelves before they leave each evening…at least until this monsoon season has ended.
