The Alpine Public Library invites all teachers, scout leaders, home school groups, and church youth groups to participate in the spring program “Life in the Rain Forest.”  The program starts with a general orientation to the library, followed by an intriguing investigation of the flora and fauna of the rainforest biome. ” Life in the Rain Forest” is adapted for children in kindergarten through fourth grade and is meant to be a positive and wholesome experience.

This program is available March thorough May and may be scheduled Tuesday through Friday.  After school hours are available.  For more information or to make an appointment for your group, please call the Alpine Public Library at 837-2621, or e-mail Mary Beth Garrett at aplkids@sbcglobal.net.

Yes, Your Children May Use The Internet

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

The internet is not just for sending and receiving email.  This is the case whether you are age 80 or age eight.  It is a joy to see many parents bringing their children to the library to use the computer.  Uses range from keeping in contact with grandma to playing educational games to preparing for school reports.  The library is a great after school location for children.  Here is what’s required for children to use the internet at the Alpine Public Library:

14 to 17 years and 364 days – Parents must complete a user agreement for their child.  Once it is complete, your child may use the internet without parental supervision. Once your son or daughter turns 18, they may complete the Adult User Agreement.

13 years and 364 days and under - A parent must complete a user agreement for their child. This will allow the child to use the internet computer in the Children’s Room only. The parent who completed the user agreement must sit with their child while he or she uses the internet.  This applies each time the child uses the internet.

User agreements are available at the Circulation Desk.  The children’s computer log is available in the children’s room, along with the children’s computer.  If you have any additional questions about your child using the internet, please feel free to contact Children’s Librarian,  Mary Beth, or Circulation and Information Librarian, Valerie.  We look forward to seeing your children throughout the school year.
