Children’s Programs - Summer, 2009

Toddler Time  - Ages 0-5 years - Tuesdays, 10:00-11:00 AM - Begins June 2

Learning centers and story time for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners.  This is a hands-on program and often messy.  Please wear play clothes.

Summer Reading Club - Ages 6-10 years - Thursdays, 10:00-11:00 AM - Begins June 4

Story time, reading activities, math games, science activities, and craft projects.  Register your child at the front desk and pick up a watermelon reading log and summer science book.

All programs are free.

Free computer classes at the Alpine and Marathon Public Libraries!

The Alpine Public Library is offering free basic computer classes in two separate sessions. The first session will be May 19th through June 4th, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:15-8:15pm.

 

The second session will be June 9th through June 25th, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:15-8:15pm. To register for these classes visit or contact the Alpine Public Library at 432-837-2621.

 

Classes at the Marathon Public Library will be held May 23rd through June 27, Saturdays at 2-4pm. To register for these classes visit or contact the Marathon Public Library at 432-386-4136.

           

The instructor, Matt Packard, has a computer installation, setup and repair background. Students will learn the basic parts and use of the computer, internet basics and how to set up and use email.

APL and MPL receive Texas Book Festival Grants

Alpine Public Library has received $5000 in grants from the Texas Book Festival.  The grants will support children’s reading programs at APL, and purchase large print books.  Marathon Public Library also received a grant from the Texas Book Festival in the amount of $2400.  The grant will purchase large print and audiobooks.

In 2009 the Festival is distributing more than $150,000 in grants to 51 libraries across the state.  Since 1996 the Festival has contributed more than $2.3 million in grants to Texas Public Libraries.
