Kids Go Back to School, Materials Come Back to the Library

Monday, August 27th, 2007

This is a reminder that there are no more fines at the Alpine Public Library. There are many items that were checked out during the Summer Reading Program that need to be returned. Just bring them back so that they can be enjoyed by others! And if anyone else has books or movies that were checked out and are overdue, please bring them back. The library has an outside drop box so items can be returned any time of the day or night.

Thanks and see you at the library.

Pardon Our Phone

Monday, August 20th, 2007

We always like to hear from our patrons.  However, our phone has been on the fritz the last few hours.  The phone will ring once and then disconnect.  If this happens to you, be certain that you have our apologies.  Please try to call us again.

Also, if the matter is of pressing need, please feel free to email us at:

aplinfo@sbcglobal.net

We will respond promptly either via email or telephone (The phone difficulty seems to be more with regard to incoming calls than outgoing.)

Once again, we would love to hear from you.  Thank you again for your support.

Pirates buried treasure

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

 rabbitt-035.jpg

Marathon Public Library had their summer reading party on August 11, 2007. The winner of our first treasure was Capri Garlick who read 42 books this summer. Congradulations to Capri for a great success. Capri had to go on a treasure hunt for her treasure through the tree of the Skelton of Blackbeard, across the propane desert to find Zoro’s glove, to the parrot island where Blackbeard’s favorite parrot ate her clue, next to the Governer’s Palace to the hangman’s arch, and finally to the bell to dig up her buried treasure.  The treasure chest was heavy to retrieve containing small pot of gold coins for her treasure. We all had a wonderful time. We shared chili, cheese dogs and rootbeer floats. All the children received a treasure, donated by friends, and a book donated from Five Owls. We wish to thank all of our wonderful volunteers that made our program a great success, all the little pirates and their parents for coming to the programs. Have a great school year. Arrrrr!!!!!!! Yes, Your Children May Use The Internet

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

The internet is not just for sending and receiving email.  This is the case whether you are age 80 or age eight.  It is a joy to see many parents bringing their children to the library to use the computer.  Uses range from keeping in contact with grandma to playing educational games to preparing for school reports.  The library is a great after school location for children.  Here is what’s required for children to use the internet at the Alpine Public Library:

14 to 17 years and 364 days – Parents must complete a user agreement for their child.  Once it is complete, your child may use the internet without parental supervision. Once your son or daughter turns 18, they may complete the Adult User Agreement.

13 years and 364 days and under - A parent must complete a user agreement for their child. This will allow the child to use the internet computer in the Children’s Room only. The parent who completed the user agreement must sit with their child while he or she uses the internet.  This applies each time the child uses the internet.

User agreements are available at the Circulation Desk.  The children’s computer log is available in the children’s room, along with the children’s computer.  If you have any additional questions about your child using the internet, please feel free to contact Children’s Librarian,  Mary Beth, or Circulation and Information Librarian, Valerie.  We look forward to seeing your children throughout the school year.
