Ms. So’s efforts are greatly appreciated. She even took one particularly waterlogged children’s book to her studio on 6th Street to give it some extra T.L.C.

The leak in the children’s room has been a problem that rears its ugly head every rainy season. It is one of the big problems we are looking forward to having solved with the building of the new library.

Last summer, for instance, an unnumbered amount of junior books were lost in a drowning akin to the one two nights ago. Some of them were quite popular and losing them was a blow to the library.

In addition, approximately 20 Science Fiction books were lost to water damage last year. This time, though, it was because water had penetrated the night drop. This loss was a striking loss to our meager Sci-Fi collection.

Ms. So and the staff of the library helped to combat material loss during the rainy season. Here is how you can help. If the weather is calling for rain, please do not place your materials in the night depository. Fines will be waived for materials returned late due to inclement weather. We may from time to time also lock the night depository during times when the weather is at risk of being inclement, as a reminder. Thanks for your support.
