Alpine Students Eagerly Anticipate “Sailing Away With Books” This Summer

Students from Alpine Elementary School have created an undersea world in the Children’s Room at the Alpine Public Library in anticipation of a summer packed with reading activities and adventures.  Volunteer library staffer, Mary Beth Garret, in collaboration with all of the elementary school teachers, has been sharing marine science learning experiences and stories with children at each grade level. They learned about the food chain as they handcrafted an expansive ocean teeming with seaweed, sea creatures, and even a school of anchovies.

These busy students have been creating the setting for the library’s summer reading program entitled “Sail Away With Books.” Children and adults alike are invited to visit the Children’s Room today to see the undersea world that Alpine children are so excited about.

All of the children of Brewster County are invited to come to the Alpine Public Libraryin June to participate in the wide variety of activities volunteers and staffers have in store for them.

All readers participating in the Texas Summer Reading Club will set a personal goal and then record the title of each book that they read. Sign up for the Alpine Reading Club will begin on Saturday May 26 with Children’s Librarian, Vanessa Hinkson. Summer Reading Club reading will last all summer long at both the Alpine Public Library and the Marathon Public Library.
