Summer Reading Materials for AHS and AMS

Attention all Alpine High School and Alpine Middle School Pre-AP and AP students: your summer reading materials are now available at the library.  All high school books are located in the young adult section.  All middle school books are located in the junior room, except for Catch 22, located in the young adult section, and Their Eyes Were Watching God, located in the adult fiction room.  Please limit renewals to one time only.

Children’s Programs - Summer, 2009

May 10th, 2009

Toddler Time  - Ages 0-5 years - Tuesdays, 10:00-11:00 AM - Begins June 2

Learning centers and story time for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners.  This is a hands-on program and often messy.  Please wear play clothes.

Summer Reading Club - Ages 6-10 years - Thursdays, 10:00-11:00 AM - Begins June 4

Story time, reading activities, math games, science activities, and craft projects.  Register your child at the front desk and pick up a watermelon reading log and summer science book.

All programs are free.

Free computer classes at the Alpine and Marathon Public Libraries!

The Alpine Public Library is offering free basic computer classes in two separate sessions. The first session will be May 19th through June 4th, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:15-8:15pm.

 

The second session will be June 9th through June 25th, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:15-8:15pm. To register for these classes visit or contact the Alpine Public Library at 432-837-2621.

 

Classes at the Marathon Public Library will be held May 23rd through June 27, Saturdays at 2-4pm. To register for these classes visit or contact the Marathon Public Library at 432-386-4136.

           

The instructor, Matt Packard, has a computer installation, setup and repair background. Students will learn the basic parts and use of the computer, internet basics and how to set up and use email.

APL and MPL receive Texas Book Festival Grants

Alpine Public Library has received $5000 in grants from the Texas Book Festival.  The grants will support children’s reading programs at APL, and purchase large print books.  Marathon Public Library also received a grant from the Texas Book Festival in the amount of $2400.  The grant will purchase large print and audiobooks.

In 2009 the Festival is distributing more than $150,000 in grants to 51 libraries across the state.  Since 1996 the Festival has contributed more than $2.3 million in grants to Texas Public Libraries.

Pajama Story Time

Attention all children ages 5-10 years old:

Don your pajamas, grab your teddy bear and your mom or dad, and come to the library on Saturday, April 25, at 7:00pm.  We will watch TWO puppet shows, read some sleepy stories, play a mathematics game, and look at stardust under a microscope.  This program is free and will last about an hour.  Be sure to wear your pajamas!

 Scissors, glue and small craft items will be used during this program.

April is National Poetry Month

Celebrate National Poetry Month by checking out classic poems at the library.  You can also read poems online from over 6900 poetry books available on our NetLibrary database! 

The Center for Western and Cowboy Poetry has proclaimed April 19-25 Cowboy Poetry Week.  What is your favorite type of poem?  Find them at the library.

Area hiking trail info now available!
